Updates: Rewild Long Island and Garden Design Services
Pictured above: my home garden
I don’t know if you’ve noticed but I’ve been a little scarce lately on this blog and on my Facebook page. Aside from the pressures of raising a young child in the middle of a global pandemic, there have been some new developments in my life.
First, I recently joined the board of directors of a great organization on Long Island called ReWild Long Island. ReWild L.I educates the public about the benefits of sustainable landscaping and they help people and organizations add native plantings to their homes and businesses. They work with religious organization and parks too. What I really love about this organization is that they don’t just talk about how great native plants are, they actually connect people with landscape designers and plants, and get native plants in the ground. All of the board members are incredibly talented people who are involved in other environmental and social causes. I have contributed several blog posts to the ReWild blog and some of the physical things we have worked on so far are a park planting in Valley Stream, a small native garden at a synagogue, an educational presentation for children at the Center for Science & Learning, and two massively successful plant sales. I have really enjoyed my time with ReWild L.I so far and I look forward to collaborating on many more projects!
If you are an individual or an organization on Long island and you are interested in sustainable landscaping, designing a native plant garden or booking an educational presentation about native plants and the environment, email me at Rebecca@rewildlongisland.org and let’s connect!
The second development in my life is that I finally completed the landscape design program I was working on! It was a lot of work for me because last year my daughter was in remote school full time and I had very little spare time or energy to spare! But I did it, and I’m proud of myself. I’ve already applied many of the design concepts I’ve learned to the ReWild projects I’ve been involved in and I have designed a few small gardens for a few people in my community. I have gained lots of hands-on experience in the last few months on top of what I already knew as a native plant gardener for 7+ years. This Fall I will be offering garden design services privately (not through ReWild). For more information about my services click here.
So, in essence, I will remain busy but definitely fulfilled doing the things I enjoy. I have several creative projects on the back burner as well so stay tuned. Thank you to all my subscribers who have encouraged me to keep going by reading and sharing my content and never give up on your dreams, no matter what obstacles appear in your path.
